着実に英語のレベルを上げようと思い、毎日勉強しています。
日本ではアメリカ教材の方が主流で、イギリス英語の教材の方は少ないのが現状。
今回は実践している勉強の中で、イギリス英語を使った教材をご紹介します。
洋書
まずは洋書をご紹介します。
初心者から上級者にまでおすすめできるのが、こちら。
「Oxford BOOK WORMS」というシリーズで、物語を英語のレベルに合わせて書き直しています。
今回ご紹介しているのはSTAGE 1で、HEADWORDSは400語です。
レベルはSTARTER（250語）からSTAGE ６（2,500語まで）であります。
HEADWORDSの数が大きくなればなるほど、語彙力が必要だということです。
読んでみて辞書を引かずに読み進められるものが、自分に合ったレベルです。
本の後ろに単語の解説やクイズなどがあるので、楽しく勉強できること間違いなし！

イギリスの私立探偵シャーロック・ホームズの物語です。
探偵ものが好きな人におすすめします。競馬に出る馬がいなくなってしまった事件のお話です。

オペラ座の怪人
舞台にもなっている、有名なお話です。
先にお芝居を見て内容を知った後に、読むのもありですね。

個人的におすすめするのが、こちら。
オーストラリアに実在した、ギャングのリーダーのお話です。
馬を盗んだり銀行を襲ったりした結果、20代で絞首刑で命を落としています。
悪事で稼いだお金を貧しい農民に分けていたようで、考えさせられる話でした。
When he was a boy, he was poor and hungry. When was a young man, he was still poor and still hungry. He learnt how to steal horses, he learnt how to fight, he learnt how to live – outside the law. Australia in the 1870s was a hard, wild place. Rich people had land, poor people didn’t . So the rich got richer, and the poor stayed poor. Some say Ned Kelly was a bad man. Some say he was a good man but the law was bad. This is the true story of Australia’s most famous outlaw.

私は「Oxford Unversity Press 本のタイトル」で検索すると、上記の本の音声を見つけました。
音声は何度も流すことが簡単にできるだけでなく速度も変えられるので、勉強に役立ちます。
